Paint Highbury Pink was born in 2007, the brainchild of Michelle Lovell - a pivotal figure in the Highbury Community - who, following her own battle with breast cancer, was keen to raise money during Breast Cancer Awareness month.

Michelle set up a little cake stall that first year outside her gift shop in Highbury Barn.  Stacked high with fabulous pink cupcakes (and Michelle’s iconic bread pudding) - the sale raised £250.

Each year Michelle continued with her event with more and more locals wanting to help and become involved.  By 2014 the fund-raiser had evolved into a full fun day for all the family, bringing locals and the community together for a good cause.  In this final year Paint Highbury Pink proudly raised over £10,000 for breast cancer charities.

Paint Highbury Pink was put on hold for a couple of years when Michelle’s illness returned and sadly, in January 2017, she lost the fight.

Paint Highbury Pink was relaunched later that year, in Michelle’s memory.  Her friends and family worked together to make the event bigger and more pink than ever before.  With a lot of hard work they raised an incredible £13,000 for Breast Cancer Now, the UK’s leading breast cancer research charity. Right now, breast cancer is at a tipping point.  More women are surviving, but more are being diagnosed than ever before.  One in eight women in the UK will face breast cancer in her lifetime.  And every 45 minutes, another woman dies from the disease.

Breast Cancer Now believes if we all act now, that by 2050 everyone who develops breast cancer will live.  This is a goal worth working towards.
